Reading the 100 Best Business Books in 100 Weeks
56So You Might Think I Am Crazy... or a Man
A few times a year I get an idea so crazy, so off the wall, and so outlandish that my wife just starts laughing at me. Now you might think that she is cruel, or mean, or discouraging - maybe she is a bit, but in retrospect she is always justified in her judgment... until today!
In the past my ideas have included writing music, writing a book (I'm still working on this one and am on page 50), framing our windows by myself (I have no experience but I did get one done), replacing sprinklers by myself, trying out for American Idol, trying to become a teacher (even though my degree is in finance), losing weight (I did shed 40 of the 70 extra pounds I had) and trying to start any type of marketing product I can find!
But today, today I had a great idea. I'll do it for sure. This hub makes it official right?
After reading an article at the home business success academy, I found some inspiration at the end of the article when I read this:
“Poor people have big TV’s. Rich people have big libraries” . (Jim Rohn)
Ouch!
The truth is I have a big TV and a library that is only 2 bookshelves. This hit me pretty hard. I'm currently in the middle of a job where I don't feel like I'm learning or improving myself at all, I'm heavily involved in church, I have 3 kids (ages 5,3,1), and am an avid t.v. watcher. I wouldn't call myself poor, more like middle class - (although I've wondered if I really am since my net worth is probably negative) - but the truth is I don't really see a lot of opportunity there.
Then I saw a link to the 100 Best Business Books of All Time. After reading through their book list my mind was set. I decided it was time to make a change and get some self-improvement up in this house... It was a crazy idea I'll admit, but something about it made me go straight to amazon to find 10 of those 100 books and start reading. So I did it, last Saturday I did it. See that picture up there? I have proof!
If my wife had been home, I might have questioned my decision to purchase those 10 books. Heck, I even tried to call her to ask her if she thought it was a good idea, but her phone kept saying that her service was out of the network! Well it must be meant to be! There I was on the Amazon checkout page - plus I had arranged all that free shipping! Who could resist?

10 Books were on their way - I'm currently waiting on them. You want to hear the best part? I'm going to read a book out of that list a week for 100 weeks. Now that's self-improvement. Right? Or am I crazy?
After asking my Wife and my Mother-in-Law about it, they both thought I was crazy. "When do you think you are going to possibly have time for that?" They both said. It made me question what I was doing, but I can't go back on my decision now, good money has been spent.
Either way you'll be able to keep reading about it here.
PS I have nothing to do with the site I'm going to mention here but if you want to do something like this for "free" (I paid $79 for my first 10 books) you can try out a book swapping site.
A quick aside: My wife is a very social person. She had one of her friends over the other day whose husband had decided out of the blue to fix up an old camper and trade in his car for an old truck. After hearing her story I quickly mentioned to her that he is a man and that's kind of what we do right? Come up with lots of ideas and follow through with them half-halfheartedly. It keeps us out of trouble!

I'm sure I've read that many books in as many weeks, but they aren't self-help or business. Still, it's always good to make goals!
I recommend getting the books at the library, and only buying the ones you LOVE. No need to have a great library of books that aren't great.
Keep on writing!!
a man's got to do what a man's got a do....
:)
I will enjoy seeing your info. This is easier than reading a 100 books. I'll read 1 of your favorites at the end. I think you should do some form of exercise while you do this. Maybe you could bike 10,000 miles on a machine and you could have two goals. :) You are a wild and crazy guy this will be fun.

I think that is great to think outside the box. They say knowledge is power. President Hinckley always had a book to read, and look what a great man he was. Good luck
